Nogrod hold tremendous promise. A few seconds into the album, past the alarming intro, it's easy to see why. They play a vicious form of black/death metal reminiscent of Behemoth, Belphegor, and Immortal. The intention is clear. They're taking no prisoners. Their grit is laudable and the execution is jaw-dropping. The whole debut heaves with raw energy. A fierce, sharp and crushing power propels this new sensation emerging from the North-east mountainous region of India. Nogrod's 'Abstruce Dismal' EP is but a glimpse into the potential the country's scene holds, following the path laid down by stalwarts like Heathen Beast, Insane Prophecy and Toxoid where this form of scathing black metal is concerned. Naysayers will be forced to eat their words. A new force is here.
