Indian death and black metal from NOGROD

"The riffs are lethal, sharp and distinctly audible despite the delectable rampaging, and there are traces of death metal as well"

Nogrod (Guwahati, India) - 'Abstruce Dismal' EP

Genre - Death/Black Metal
Release Date - May 13th, 2016

Nogrod hold tremendous promise. A few seconds into the album, past the alarming intro, it's easy to see why. They play a vicious form of black/death metal reminiscent of Behemoth, Belphegor, and Immortal. The intention is clear. They're taking no prisoners. Their grit is laudable and the execution is jaw-dropping. The whole debut heaves with raw energy. A fierce, sharp and crushing power propels this new sensation emerging from the North-east mountainous region of India. Nogrod's 'Abstruce Dismal' EP is but a glimpse into the potential the country's scene holds, following the path laid down by stalwarts like Heathen Beast, Insane Prophecy and Toxoid where this form of scathing black metal is concerned. Naysayers will be forced to eat their words. A new force is here.

Album Line-up:
Bhaskar (Guitarist/Bassist/Vocalist)
Dhiraj (Percussion/Drums/Sessional Music Producer)
Rohan (Sessional Guitarist/Music Producer/Manager)

Track list:
1. Call to all Unholy Beings (intro) 00:42
2. Powered by the Black Sun 03:26
3. Scavenger of Truth 03:06

Italian atmospheric doom and black metal from (EchO)

(EchO) (Italy) - 'Head First into Shadows'

Genre - Atmospheric Doom/Black/Death Metal
Release Date - May 23rd, 2016
Record Label - BadMoodMan Productions (Solitude Productions subsidiary)

Similar to the outstanding The Morningside release on BadMoodMan Music (subsidiary of Solitude Productions), (EchO) from Italy evoke deep emotions yet again with their stylistic take on death, doom and black metal. Merging all these styles and lacing it with graceful melodies, (EchO) are creating something special.

Imagine a mix of Kauan, Paradise Lost and indeed, The Morningside, their latest full length is a beautiful exploration of music that can reach out and touch your soul.

Featuring guest appearances of members of Ahab and Callisto, the album is unpredictable from start to finish but as phases in life, they're continuous and segue into one enriching experience - be it depressing or uplifting.

'Head First Into Shadows' is an album worthy of introspection, as there are so many facets to each song, with so many influences and elements incorporated to form a seamless song, which on paper is near impossible. And yet (EchO) create something marvellous, something that's rich with ideas but not confused with them all.

Experience this gem of a band and how effortlessly they've created something that defies simple categorization.

Album Line-up:
Fabio Urietti - Vocals
Mauro Ragnoli - Guitar
Simone Saccheri - Guitar
Simone Mutolo - Piano & Keyboards
Agostino Bellini - Bass
Paolo Copeta - Drums

Track list:
1. Blood And Skin
2. This Place We Used To Call Home
3. Beneath This Lake
4. Gone
5. A New Maze
6. Order Of The Nightshade

French crust/black metal from NUISIBLE on Deadlight Entertainment

It's not often that you come across music that's sonically hard-hitting and refreshing at the same time. Here's Nuisible from France on the ace label Deadlight Entertainment, and as always, fine site No Clean Singing is the first to write about it HERE.

"There’s a palpable core of violence in the song, surrounded by explosiveness and made even more physically jolting by the music’s dynamic movement."

Nuisible (France) - 'Inter Feces et Urinam Nascimur'

Genre - Crust/Black Metal
Release Date - June 23rd, 2016
Record Label - Deadlight Entertainment (France)

French crust heroes Nuisible put together another vicious onslaught that's a slap in the face of the skeptics. Their style is relentless, thrashy and laced with adrenaline. From start to finish, these maniacs whip up a frenzy, one that's superbly paced, bearing the right spirit and attitude, and remaining on top of things throughout. Described as a cross between the latter works of Darkthrone and crust/punk legends Tragedy, it's every bit as potent as you would imagine, and more. They add their own aggression and edge to the proceedings to make it relevant and sufficiently scathing. Simply put, this is for fans of good, energetic music, and anyone who can appreciate thrash/crossover, crust/grind or hardcore/punk, will lap this band up in no time.

Album Line-up:
Julien : guitars, vocals
Alexandre : drums, keyboards, backing
Damien : bass,backing
Furet : guitar

The album was recorded by Dan Biggin at HVR studios (CRIMINAL, LOCK UP, etc) and mixed by guitarist Tom Bradfield.

Chilean Thrashers NUCLEAR Cover Death's "Evil Dead" in New Video

Chilean Thrashers NUCLEAR have released a new video, covering DEATH's classic "Evil Dead." Check out the video at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoJftcHhWp8&hd=1

NUCLEAR had this to say about the video: "It is just our humble tribute to one of the greatest musicians metal music had the opportunity to listen. Chuck Schuldiner's indelible mark is still influencing tons of new metal acts around the world and Scream Bloody Gore was one hell of a start for all of us"

NUCLEAR is currently working on new material and a new album is expected to be released in 2017 by Candlelight/Spinefarm Records.

Formula for Anarchy, the ferocious new album from NUCLEAR, is out now on Candlelight Records.

Purchase and/or stream tracks at https://candlelightrecordsuk.bandcamp.com/album/formula-for-anarchy

Formed in 2003, Chilean thrash metal band NUCLEAR burst forth from the underground scene with one of the most aggressive and powerful songwriting approaches the country had ever witnessed. Heavily influenced in 80's thrash, hardcore-punk and old school death metal, NUCLEAR has never compromised or followed any trends during their career. Indeed, the band is deadly serious about their art. Since 2006, NUCLEAR has been releasing albums every two years. Five studio albums, one split vinyl, one live DVD, two live albums and hundreds of live shows around the world including tours in Europe and Latin America, and there is no end in sight!

Skeleton Wolf Self-Titled Review

Format: Digipack
Label: Independent
Release Date: June 10, 2016

Three men with a very large sound.

That sound is straightforward and they employ no esoteric tactics;  they choose instead to rely heavily on solid riffing, blackened thrash paces which stand the test of time and very occasionally use vicious embellishment in the form of homespun sample work.

Noteworthy, too, is Tim Green's vocalizing. He enunciates clearly and his delivery is fierce, but not altogether monstrous. He makes an effective case. The group-led vocals throughout the album are great to shout along to and should provide easy cues for both the listener and the show attendee.

However, there is a little gimmickry. The only frills to be had, overall, are the many heavy bass drops they've chosen to include. These moments exist in two songs and five of them are countable in one song that's just under five minutes: excessive is the word for that! But, apart from the egregious use of these audio apparatuses, what remains is an exercise in unpretentious and enjoyable extreme metal.

It doesn't feel like coincidence that the band's name is a reversal of the typification of a Dungeons & Dragons creature (a Wolf Skeleton). For now, Skeleton Wolf is a very simple yet effective creature. The music absolutely attacks, and does so simply, until its conclusion. Skeleton Wolf obeys the metal command in a very single-minded way. If they continue to play to their strengths, following their own initiative to develop themselves, they could be a very strong band. Their do-it-yourself work ethic is absolutely to be commended.

Skeleton Wolf have created a debut that seems the result of diligent distillation of their many inspirations and, moreover, sounds like something that should inspire a positive and visceral response.

Indian black metal band INFERNAL DIATRIBE release "Videha Mukti" EP

This one is straight from the Indian underground. Under normal circumstances, it would've simply ended up on YouTube but via this distribution division, it gets a pro-CD release with a full blown 12-page matt finish booklet (with excellent layout and lyrics) and a chance to get covered by you kind folks, around the world. US site No Clean Singing were the first to do a premiere which can be found HERE. Rolling Stone India has promised to do the next one...

Infernal Diatribe (Kolkata, India) - 'Videha Mukti' EP

Genre - Black Metal
Release Date - June 20th, 2016
Record Label - Transcending Obscurity Distribution

Infernal Diatribe, hailing from Kolkata, India, have taken the torch from Heathen Beast in further propagating the sound of black metal from the country. Along with significant albums released by Toxoid and Diabolus Arcanium, they're at the foremost where the black metal scene in India is currently poised. Playing vicious and ambitious occult black metal, this quintet is all set to unleash their underground assault on unsuspecting ears worldwide. The band have worked tremendously hard on making this debut, their dream, a reality and armed with a deal with Transcending Obscurity Distribution, one can expect the band moving out of their home base to play other cities, and hopefully, other countries as well. Nonetheless, there's little to stop their blackened spiritual attack. Superbly composed songs with an underlying dark Indian theme forms the crux of the band's music. The whole affair reeks of spiritual indulgences, the left hand path and its fatal implications this side of the world, as the band tells us about the aghori path of moksha aka spiritual enlightenment.

Album Line-up:

Vocals - KaraNavigama
Guitar - Kalavikrama
Guitar - Narantaka
Bass - Kalaparzudhara
Drums - Naztaz

Track list:
1. Demonic Gasping Mortal Nightmare (Wisdom)
2. Doomed
3. Morbid Evocation
4. The Cry

Dissident metal from ThrOes in THIS VIPER WOMB

Some bands, some artists, some albums stand alone. They don’t slip neatly into a genre pigeonhole; they don’t readily display a host of obvious influences and inspirations, they don’t toe the party line or say all the right things to woo fans to their banner. Trent Griggs is such an artist, ThrOes are such a band and This Viper Womb is most definitely such an album.

This Viper Womb grew at its own pace, coming into being over a number of years. It is the worldview, the philosophy, the truth of Trent Griggs. Every element of this music, every word of these lyrics has been crafted meticulously to convey this truth. With the assistance of notorious Australian metal scene vocalist, James Ludbrook and current Suffocation drummer, Kevin Talley (also ex-Misery Index, ex-Six Feet Under, ex-Dying Fetus and a host more) Trent Griggs has brought an incredible extreme metal album to life; wild and unrestrained yet perfectly planned – chaos within structure, structure within chaos.

With the established ‘rules’ of metal having little relevance to ThrOes, Griggs, like other great pioneers, has created his own genre – Dissident Metal...population one.

“I stand by the fact that I feel ThrOes does not sound like anything else in metal” the band mastermind explains. “I feel it is in opposition to 90% of metal on a stylistic and thematic level and I do not care one bit about belonging to a group or limiting my style to a few enforced adjectives by authorities I do not follow.”

Welcome to This Viper Womb. There is knowledge to be found here, there are lessons to be learned. There is thrilling, original music and a sound like no other. This is Dissident Metal. This is ThrOes.

Line-up:

Trent Griggs – lead vocal, guitar, bass, ebow
James Ludbrook – additional vocals
Kevin Talley - drums

Genre: Dissident metal

Philadelphia alt rock/shoegaze phenoms NOTHING have premiered a new animated music video for the track "A.C.D. (Abscessive Compulsive Disorder)" via The Independent and YouTube HERE. The video is a dark homage to Dire Straits' classic "Money For Nothing" clip. Nothing guitarist/vocalist Domenic Palermo elaborates:

FRAMEWORKS PREMIERE MUSIC VIDEO FOR “PURGE”

Song appears on new album Smother, out July 8th from Deathwish

"...a melodic but deeply intense piece of work that promises great things to come." - Stereogum

Check out the first music video from Frameworks’ forthcoming Smother LP for new song “Purge” as it premiered today on Nerdist.  Smother is the band’s Deathwish Inc. debut album and will be released on CD, LP and digital formats on July 8th, 2016.

Smother was recorded earlier this year by Matt McClellan (Being As An Ocean, O’ Brother, etc) at Glow In The Dark Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright (Converge, Self Defense Family, etc) at Audiosiege Mastering. Smother is a massive leap forward for Frameworks; the album pulses with hook-laden melodious riffs and moving emotional crescendos, all of it gushing with a rare creative beauty and maturity that will appeal to listeners from all corners of the underground music world.  This dynamic new album follows the band’s 2014 LP, Loom (Topshelf Records) and the two-song Time Spent EP released earlier this year.  Both were well-received releases that showed the band broadening their approach through the use of darker, more experimental instrumentation leading to their artistic peak that is now Smother.

More information and songs will surface soon.  For now, pre-order Frameworks’ Smother LP here.

Smother, Track Listing:
1. Fear Of Missing Out

Canadian Super Group THIRD ION Announce July Release for Sophomore Album 'Biolith'

Canadian Progressive Metal Outfit THIRD ION, featuring former members of THE DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND, INTO ETERNITY, and ANNIHILATOR, have announced the July 8 release of sophomore album Biolith. The new album will be released on Glasstone Records and is the first to feature ex-ANNIHILATOR vocalist Dave Padden.

Check out the Biolith teaser video at this location.

Padden's years of experience with ANNIHILATOR, and the many records on which he has appeared, has already proven to be a major asset, and has brought the band to new level of space-time supremacy. THIRD ION once again, tapped artist Harley K at Necrographix to mastermind the artwork for Biolith, and to bring the story of the 10-minute, epic title track to life.

In other THIRD ION news, the band has been nominated for the "Metal/Hard Music Artist of the Year" category at the 2016 Western Canadian Music Awards.

Biolith Track List:

3. Biolith
4. Status Undetermined
5. Illogical

BIO
Third Ion is the product of a mutual love of prog, video games, and science. Formed in 2014 and spread across Canada, the band finished their first full length record by the end of the year; 13/8Bit was released worldwide on Glasstone Records, May 25 2015.

Peaking at #14 on iTunes Metal Charts, 13/8Bit was fully embraced by press across the globe, receiving 9/10 at metal.de, 8.5/10 in Aardshock Magazine, as well as featured streams at Bravewords.com, and Metal Hammer Norway. Unfortunately, shortly after the release of 13/8Bit, singer Tyler Gilbert decided to leave the band to continue focusing on his own original music and career. The band finished writing the followup record while on the hunt for a replacement through the end of the year.

In January of 2016, Third Ion announced that the mighty Dave Padden, had stepped in, and has recorded all the vocals for their sophomore album Biolith, due July 8 2016 on Glasstone Records.

LISTEN TO MUSCLE & MARROW’S ‘LOVE’ LP BEFORE ITS RELEASE THIS FRIDAY

Streaming now on Noisey / On tour in July & August with Marissa Nadler & Wrekmeister Harmonies

“The duo’s songs showcase metal’s oft-unheard sweet side as they tackle the major themes of death and love.” - NPR
"...a gorgeous, emotion-filled exploration of the complexities of close relationships, both the beauty of shared, unconditional bonds and the agony of losing someone you love." - She Shreds

"While 'dark' and 'experimental' definitely do apply here, Muscle & Marrow are making accessible music (creepily accessible, but accessible nonetheless)." - Brooklyn Vegan

Portland, OR’s Muscle and Marrow will release their sophomore album Love this Friday, May 27th on The Flenser.  Today, the band is thrilled to stream the album in its entirety, along with a new interview with members Kira Clark and Keith McGraw, on Noisey.

Formed in 2013, Muscle and Marrow released their debut album The Human Cry the following year. Its songs were arresting and hysterical, but also distinctly feminine. Pitchfork called it “gorgeous,” with Clark’s voice alternating between plaintive wails and guttural moans that soared over waves of pulsing drums and stifling guitars. Muscle and Marrow toured across the United States and in October, 2015, the duo posted up at Machines with Magnets (The Body, Lightning Bolt, Deer Tick) in Providence, RI to record what was to become their sophomore album, Love. The band took their time in the studio and laid down seven tracks that delve further into deep electronic territories, but still incorporate the familiar droning guitars, ethereal vocals and tribal drums throughout.  Along with themes of death and loss, Love touches on feminism and female archetypes, a topic that Kira Clark is very interested in. “It’s cathartic and alluring for me to delve into feminine madness because, of course, that character is inside me somewhere all of the time and to give her permission to surface in my art is powerful,” comments Clark.
